3 killed, 3 hospitalized in car accident in Fontana, California

Three people were killed and three others were hospitalized Saturday morning after a ghost accident in Fontana.

According to California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 6:34 a.m. on Highway 210 just east of Citrus Avenue.

Two vehicles were involved: a Ford sedan and a Lexus SUV. The sedan was traveling in the wrong direction and traveling eastbound in westbound lanes, CHP said.

As the sedan passed the Citrus Avenue exit, it collided with the SUV, which was carrying five passengers, authorities said.

Crime scene photos show the two vehicles completely crushed, with car parts and debris scattered across the highway.

Both drivers of the sedan and SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. The five SUV passengers were identified as a 43-year-old man, a 42-year-old woman, a 16-year-old girl, a 5-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, all from Highland.

The 16-year-old girl was transported to a local hospital, where she later died, CHP said.

The three other occupants suffered serious injuries and were all taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver of the sedan has not been identified at this time.

The cause of the fatal accident is still under investigation.
