Coban Porter, brother of Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr., arrested in fatal accident

Coban Porter, brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. and a University of Denver basketball player, were arrested in connection with a fatal accident in south Denver early Sunday, according to Denver police.

Coban Porter was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and reckless driving, police spokesman Kurt Barnes confirmed Sunday. The 21-year-old was taken into custody at the scene of a two-vehicle fatal accident on South University Boulevard and Buchtel Boulevard, Barnes said.

The accident happened at approximately 1:54 a.m. One driver died on the spot.

Barnes said he could not provide an arrest report or additional details about what happened on Sunday. Barnes said he had no information to suggest that Michael Porter Jr. was involved in the crash. A spokesman for the Nuggets team told The Post he was not involved in the incident. He was kept out of Sunday night’s game against Oklahoma City for “personal reasons”.

Coban came to Denver after committing to the University of Denver men’s basketball program after stints with Father Tolton Catholic in Columbia, Missouri, and Link Prep in Branson, Missouri. He played in 28 games last season as a freshman with the Pioneers. He tore an anterior cruciate ligament during the off-season and was unable to train with the team this year due to the injury. He is still on the team’s list and taking classes at DU.

A DU spokesperson released a statement from the university after being contacted by The Post.

“This is a tragic and heartbreaking situation and our deepest sympathy goes out to those involved in the accident, their families and friends,” the statement said. “All resources from our campus and wider community, including counseling services, are available 24/7 to any member of the DU community who needs assistance.”
