Fire investigation underway in Waukee

Firefighters investigate a fire at a business building on North 10th Street in Waukee. On Friday evening, several emergency vehicles were outside the Quad/Graphics building, but no flames could be seen from the outside. The Waukee Fire Department confirms to KCCI that the fire started in the building’s rescue room. Firefighters say a machine malfunctioned, causing a spark that led to the blaze. The “bailing” process compresses scrap paper for recycling after paper has been used to make phone books, according to Waukee Fire Department. Because the fire involved machines, firefighters had to be particularly careful when putting out the fire. There were workers in the building as it is a 24 hour facility. There were no injuries in the fire. The Waukee Fire Department had the fire under control late Friday night.
